COLIN DARES TO KEEP UP THE FIGHT

As a former drug squad detective on the tough South Yorkshire beat – Colin Middleton has plenty of first hand experience of the misery illegal drugs can create.

Now he’s taking the anti-drug message into the classroom to help primary school children to develop the skills, knowledge, understanding and and self confidence to resist the dangers of drugs, bullying and anti-social behaviour.

DARE GETS £2000 BOOST FROM MAYOR’S CHARITY

The drug education and lifeskills charity, DARE, has been given a £2240 boost, thanks to a donation from the Mayor of Broxtowe.

DARE, which teaches hundreds of youngsters how to avoid the dangers of illegal drugs, violence, anti social behaviour and bullying, was one of the nominated charities for the past Mayor, Councillor Sue Wildey, who retired in May.

DARE Double for Teacher

THIRTEEN years ago, Year 6 schoolteacher Leah Baxendale was one of the first pupils in Bassetlaw to take part in the DARE programme. A pupil at Worksop’s St Augustine’s School at the time, Leah and her classmates initially had no idea of what it was all about.

“We just knew that it would be something different to the usual curriculum lessons, especially when we saw our teachers would be policemen in uniform,” she said.

NOTTS SCHOOLCHILDREN DARE TO TAKE PART IN LONDON LORD MAYOR’S PARADE

A group of 12 school children from Notts represented the Notts-based anti-drug charity DARE at the Lord Mayor’s show in London on Saturday Nov 14.

They were winners of a competition called DRESS DOWN FOR DARE, which was run in several Notts schools earlier this year – with the first prize an appearance at the Lord Mayor’s show.

DARE IS THE BROADMARSH CENTRE’S CHARITY OF THE YEAR

The successful Notts-based drug education Charity, Dare, has been chosen as the Broadmarsh Centre’s Charity of the Year.

Dare UK is a National Charity which delivers life skills and drugs education to youngsters aged nine to 16.

DARE will be using the Broadmarsh Centre’s support to help promote its new membership drive, by holding fund raising events.
