Steve Elkin I graduated with a 2:1 Hons degree in Quantity Surveying in 1993, however, I realized that I wanted to be more at the cut and thrust end of projects and so embarked on my career as a Project Manager. I became a Chartered Surveyor in 1995 as a Quantity Surveyor, Project Management was not officially recognized in the industry at that time. I now hold Chartered Designation as Project Manager both with the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) and CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building). I have represented both of these bodies in various guises – I have served on the board and eventually local chair of the RICS, I was the youngest ever member of the RICS Regional Board for the East Midlands (in my late 30’s!) and have also become an Assessor for people seeking Chartered Designation. I have also been chair of the EMCCG (East Midlands Construction Careers Group) whose remit was to promote professional careers in construction. My role at Willmott Dixon is to engage with clients to establish and define a brief for a project and bring it into fruition. The Willmott Dixon ethic is not just to take a brief and build the project and walk away, but to bring something extra and invest in our clients. As you know nearly all of our work is through long-term partnerships with clients and the vast majority of it is in education – in fact we are currently the largest (in terms of value of projects) constructor of educational establishments in the UK. It is through our desire to be always pushing forward and investing in the communities where we provide schools that we see that a partnership with DARE could be beneficial to both of us. |
