DARE Secondary School (keepin’ it REAL)

DARE UK is planning the launch of a Secondary school programme during 2010 so it is available for the new academic year, September 2010,.The curriculum and resources (including high quality DVD) will be an adaptation of the highly successful DARE America Middle School programme developed by Penn State University, USA. Current developments are taking place to ensure relevance and suitability for the UK.

It will follow on from the DARE Primary curriculum (although this is not essential) and is designed to help young people in years 7 and 8 deal with the many challenges they face during transition. It is expected that the programme will be delivered by teachers and DARE Officers.

Resources and Cost

Students will be provided with personal workbooks and the programme will be supported by DVD. Teachers and DARE Officers will be provided with session guides. Early planning suggests the input from DARE Officers will comprise two of the ten lessons, hence the importance in teachers being provided with quality lesson plans, remote support and briefing/training.

Initial prices are anticipated to be in the region of £8 per child.
